As we said the reserve has very special characteristics in El Hierro, to be protected
area. The reservation is prohibited to throw the anchor, all the moorings
are by bolla, an anchor can not be more than one boat with 12 divers.
In all dives are present almost always the same species: old, trumpets, peje green, amberjack, abbots, groupers, Bocinegro, etc ... There are dives where it is easier to see: bicuda, bonito, yellowfin tuna, garden eels, mantas, lobster antennae, etc ... in particular we mention these.
Most
dives in the reserve are as follows: continuation of the continental
shelf of the island, which is very short, because many times at 300
m from the coast and there is a depth of over 200 m. This platform has
a contour, a slope that goes into the deep, sometimes shock and other
smoothly.
Here we will discuss only the dives of the reserve of El Hierro, but there is the
possibility of many more that are out of them and equally beautiful
as Punta Restinga, The Gorge, The Arch, The Coral, The Cave of the Jacks,
Low Bocarones, Roque de Bonanza, La Caleta, etc ...
The dives are:
- The corner, is considered an easy dive. We started about 12m and
gradually going down to 20. It follows a natural wall that runs from
the pier out to sea. It makes the trip a bit detached from the wall
and back behind her. In the sandy bottom is round with a chance to
see stingrays and angel sharks. We will return in some small caves
where you can see lobster antennae and tambourines. All Returning
along a wall where there are nooks where you put your head waves and
days you can see how are you breaking over our heads.
- The port, easy, shallow, is the place where they do baptisms and
nighttime. Being small port enjoys an incredible cleanliness of their
waters. Its sandy bottom is home to mantelinas and dogs. You can get
out of the mouth and look between the prisms to look for lobsters,
tambourines and all species of marine life.
- La Herradura: Medium difficulty easy, because the currents. Funding
to about 8 m with a contour that goes down smoothly close to 35 m.
He gets a bit by the reef looking out to sea with the occasional light
and beautiful rugs. We can also see puffers. The return is at shallow
depth by a kind of small cannon with the ability to watch: Swiss cows,
abbots captain and black coral, 12 m deep.
- The Cup low: Being the most southerly point of the Spanish state,
is the immersion star of the reservation of El Hierro. About 300 m away from the
coast, is a massif with two humps, where the side that faces out to
sea falls 80 meters vertical wall. The other four walls have a depth
of about 50 m. Its situation, exposed to strong currents and depth
make it a difficult dive. There are a lot of life, especially more
current day, where you can occasionally see blankets. There are also
banks Bicuda, chopones, and big amberjack.
- Reeds Point, near the reserve integral (instead of maximum protection)
is an easy dive where a small platform and shelf. It is the first
leg of the contour at a certain depth, always looking out to sea by
the passage of pelagic and becomes the platform about 12 m.
- The Lajial, similar to above but with a drop to infinity much more
pronounced, which makes you dizzy.
- La Cueva del Diablo, shallow, very easy. It is a sort of large cave
that resembles the roof of a church. Part of the roof has fallen and
that makes a beam of light and give him a certain mysticism to the
place. Apparently being inside a large room, there is a greater sense
of being part of the 3 dimensions and the effect fly.
- Roque de Tacoron in front of the natural pools (there are a lot in El Hierro) of Tacoron
this dive is where we occasionally recorded encounters with the famous
Tortuga Boba. He gets a contour and turns to go around the famous
roque.
- The Tacoron, walks along the bottom of the natural pools.
Place a lot of life where you can see just below one of these pools
a large spiny.
- The break. This immersion is widely beauty as it passes from one
contour with a drop to 40 feet deep to pass a half-pipe (with large
opening to get out) at shallow depth where the first will be lucky
to see a bank of trumpets still , diving into the water as if they
were paintings. 3 small caves are visited passing around a small arch.
- Baja Rosario, contour where life constantly walking through our
eyes. Place where there are currents rarely enjoys a comfortable diving
with an eye always out to sea, where it can be seen passing pelagics.
Here you can see big amberjack, abbots and groupers. This dive do
not miss the backlights in the early hours of sunshine with volcanic
rocks, the moon appears.
- The desert, with the end of the reserve is down a strip of sand
where thousands of garden eels. It has the ability to go for a contour
where hopefully we can enjoy our friend Pancho, large grouper that
day if you can touch it, even kissing. Very famous in El Hierro. He turns to the slab where
the ship anchors, looking in his hole and passing through a small
arch full of trumpets.

It is impossible to explain as a dip with all its grandeur in four
words, so it is always better to see for yourself.
